About CBS:

Training description :

Heterogenous catalysts, constituted of highly dispersed active phase (metal particles) on high surface area support are one of the most important materials in heterogenous catalysis. They play a pivotal role in many important industrial catalysts ranging from fine chemical productions, and refinery to fertilizers production. Historically, the role of support is to maintain a high dispersion of the active phase without much involvement in the catalytic reaction. However, in multitude of catalytic reactions, the interaction between the support and the active phase was found to play an important role in shaping the catalytic activity and selectivity of a given active phase.

The objective of this project is to study the effect of support on the catalytic activity of bismuth in the preparation of Polyurethane. In order to assert the role of support on Bismuth catalytic activity and selectivity, different supports presenting diverse physic-chemical properties (Redox properties, acido-basic properties, surface area, …etc) will be prepared and studied. the supports studied in this work will include SiO2, meosoporous SBA-15, MgO, ZrO2 and TiO2. The catalyst will be characterized using a panoply of techniques including: XRD, FTIR, RAMAN, ATG and N2- physisorption. The activity of bismuth will be studied in photochemical chemistry applications.
