About CRSA :
CRSA is a transversal structure across several UM6P Programs. Research within the center is organized around several major areas that aim to ensure the challenging Food and Water security goal in Africa, with a special focus on developing methods/tools that use multi-source remotely sensed data. The research aims to improve our understanding of the integrated functioning of continental surfaces and their interaction with climate and humans, with emphasis on sustainable management of natural resources (soil, land, water, agriculture) in the context of Climate Change. One of the centre’s goals is to provide a set of services and operational products to users (local, national and international) that aid in the decision support of water and food systems.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled technician to measure and analyze vegetation parameters in various ecosystems. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting data on vegetation characteristics such as biomass, leaf area index, and plant height using a variety of instruments and techniques. The technician will be required to work both in the field and in the laboratory, ensuring that all data collected is accurate and reliable.
Key duties:
- Collect vegetation data in the field, including biomass, leaf area index, plant height, and other parameters using appropriate instrumentation and techniques.
- Operate and maintain field equipment, such as light sensors, spectrometers, and GPS units, to ensure accurate data collection.
- Conduct laboratory analyses of vegetation samples, including drying, weighing, and processing plant tissues.
- Record and maintain accurate data and sample information in a laboratory information management system.
- Compile and interpret data, prepare reports, and communicate results to relevant parties.
- Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to plan and execute field data collection and laboratory analyses.
- Assist with the development and implementation of new vegetation monitoring protocols and techniques.
- Travel to different sites as required to collect data and perform field measurements.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders regarding project status, findings, and recommendations.

Desired skills and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field.
- 2-3 years of experience in vegetation parameter analysis.
- Knowledge of vegetation ecology and field data collection techniques.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures and instrumentation, including experience with drying ovens, balances, and other laboratory equipment.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and data interpretation.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel to various locations as required.
- A driver’s license is required.
