About CRSA:

The Center for Remote Sensing Applications (CRSA) is a transversal structure within UM6P that aims to develop methods & tools using multi-source remote sensing data in an approach combining remote sensing, process modeling and field measurements.

The CRSA intends to conduct innovative applied research in the fields of water, agriculture, and soils to solve the problems of monitoring and sustainable management of natural resources, based on scientific collaborations with high-level international universities. It also aims to provide high quality training programs for future African experts in remote sensing.

Job description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Remote Sensing, GIS & Agronomy Engineer to join our team dedicated to the development, testing, and implementation of a cutting-edge decision support platform for sustainable water management in agriculture. This platform aims to provide farmers with actionable insights and recommendations by harnessing the power of remote sensing, GIS, and agronomic expertise. The Remote Sensing, GIS & Agronomy Engineer will be responsible for driving the technical aspects of the project, with a focus on data analysis, modeling, and supporting farmers in optimizing their agricultural practices.

Key duties:

The work to be performed will include:

  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including data scientists, developers, and agricultural experts, to integrate remote sensing and GIS data into the decision support platform.
  • Implement and refine remote sensing data processing pipelines, including image acquisition, pre-processing, and analysis.
  • Develop geospatial models and algorithms for mapping and monitoring agricultural variables.
  • Analyze data to provide actionable insights and recommendations for farmers to optimize irrigation, fertilization, and crop management practices.
  • Work on the integration of agronomic knowledge with remote sensing data to ensure region-specific recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the communication and extension team to disseminate findings and recommendations to farmers and stakeholders.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in remote sensing technology, GIS tools, and agronomy practices to continually enhance the platform's capabilities.
  • Participate in field data collection and validation to support model accuracy.
  • Contribute to the documentation of data processing, modeling, and agronomic procedures.
Profile recherché

Skills:

  • The candidate should have an engineering or master’s degree in Remote Sensing, GIS, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in remote sensing, GIS, and agronomy, especially in the context of agriculture and water management.
  • Proficiency in remote sensing data processing, GIS tools, and software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, ENVI, etc.).
  • Strong programming skills for data analysis, including Python and relevant libraries.
  • Familiarity with geospatial modeling and agronomic principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for leveraging technology to address sustainability challenges.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective teamwork with interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • A genuine interest in sustainability, water management, and the environment, aligning with the project's mission.
