The Geology & Sustainable Mining Institute of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is recruiting for the UM6P-OCP Geo-Analytical Lab of Benguerir a research engineer in the field of trace-element (micro-)analysis by solution-ICP-MS and LA-ICP-MS.

1. Task:

Under the responsibility of the Technical Director of the Geo-Analytical Lab, the recruited engineer will ensure the management, operation and development of an inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer equipped with a laser ablation source (LA-ICP-MS).

2. Main activities:

  • ensure the implementation of techniques and methods for (micro-)analysis of trace elements by solution-ICP- MS and LA-ICP-MS,
  • define, develop and optimize sample preparation processes and analytical methods adapted to different needs,
  • write technical notes and protocols for technicians and users,
  • write analysis reports,
  • periodically check and adjust the equipment; manage maintenance operations,
  • diagnose and treat common equipment malfunctions,
  • supervise and coordinate the tasks of the technical staff assigned to the LA-ICP-MS laboratory,
  • plan the activities of the LA-ICP-MS laboratory according to the constraints of sharing the instruments between different users,
  • provide user training and supervision; provide training actions, particularly for students,
  • ensure technological monitoring in the field of LA-ICP-MS analyses, and more broadly in the field of trace element analysis and micro-analysis,
  • draw up specifications for carrying out studies and projects, including, where appropriate, the implementation of new methods and the use of other instruments,
  • participate in the acquisition of new equipment, from the identification of the need to the final purchase,
  • apply and enforce health and safety rules.

A proven experience of several years in LA-ICP-MS acquired in a renowned laboratory will be considered extremely favorable.
