About MSN department

The Materials Science, Energy, and nano-engineering (MSN) is a department at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University that aims to makes use of innovative research and education in order to promote solution development and entrepreneurship (in the context of Moroccan and African challenges), while training the next generation top scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs.

Research at MSN is organized in different research clusters including Energy Transition, Surface Technology and Metallurgy, Polymers and Composites, and Sustainable Materials. With some 100 researchers and PhD students and several national and international partners, MSN is emerging as a strong actor in the Moroccan materials research scene. The department coordinates several initial and executive Master programs.

Position Announcement

Job Title: Scientist in Metallurgy

Area of specialization: Primary and secondary steelmaking processes and steel heat treatments

Place: UM6P – MSN Department

Job Summary

The Accelerated Research Centre is looking for a motivated candidate to develop unique steel materials at the lab scale and to guid the Lab to Fab transition. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach, train and supervise engineers and students in metallurgy.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Develop and submit research grant-proposals

• Lead research programs with academics and/or industrial partners by proposing Fab to Lab to Fab and/or Lab to Fab approaches

• Participation to specialized classes on metallurgy and material formulation, preparation, and characterizations

• Prepare and submit technical reports for industrial partners and publications in high ranked journals

• Expand the existing collaboration network nationally and internationally

Additional responsibilities include:

• Project management including budget, materials, lab, equipment, and staff

• Organization of workshops and conferences

• Frequent travelling to different steelmaking industries at national and international level

Application Procedure

• A synthetic presentation of the background, research works, projects and activities, publications, key achievements

• A research plan, entrepreneurial ideas and concepts, and services for UM6P community: max 3-4 pages

• 3 references letters, one from the supervisor, one from an external professor working in the field of steelmaking processes and one from an industrial partner

Profile recherché

Qualifications and Experience Essential

• Ph.D. in Material Sciences, or a closely related field

• Experience of at least three years of research in material science after the accomplishment of the Ph.D.

• Hands-on research experience in standard and advanced steelmaking processes along with a joint experience within a steelmaking industry

• Have experience conducting research in the development of novel and sustainable materials

• Have experience in supervision and teaching of graduate (Master and/or Ph.D) and undergraduate (Bachelor) students in Metallurgy

• Evidence of ability to work with other researchers in an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary setting, and lead an innovative trait development program

• Demonstrated publication record in well-ranked journals

• Ability to interact and collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and labs across the university

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French

Desirable

  • An experience on the development of methods (salt spray, electrochemistry, Jominy, tribology, etc.) allowing the further understanding of the materials’ stability under aggressive environment will be appreciated.
