Poste

The Global Phosphorus Institute (GPI) invites applications for a Senior Research Scientist to lead and elevate its research agenda on phosphorus use in agriculture and food systems. Phosphorus is central to global food security, and over 80% of its consumption is
tied to agricultural production. As such, this role lies at the heart of GPI’s mission to champion sustainable, efficient, and equitable phosphorus use—from farm to fork.

We are looking for a seasoned scientist and global thought leader with a strong publication record, deep technical expertise, and the ability to shape multi-stakeholder initiatives and influence global policy discussions. The ideal candidate will bridge science, policy, and practice to design and scale solutions that enhance nutrient use efficiency, protect ecosystems, and build resilience in agriculture and food systems.

This is a strategic role, reporting to the Executive Director of GPI, and based at the GPI headquarters in Ben Guerir, Morocco. The selected candidate will work closely with international research organizations, donors, policy institutions, and innovation platforms to position GPI at the forefront of the global phosphorus agenda.

Core Responsibilities:

Research and Scientific Leadership

• Lead and oversee a robust research program focused on phosphorus use efficiency, integrated soil fertility management, agroecology, and nutrient recovery innovations.
• Drive the design of transdisciplinary research initiatives that align with global food system challenges and opportunities (climate resilience, biodiversity, land degradation).
• Supervise and mentor research teams and postdoctoral scientists, ensuring high scientific standards and relevance to development outcomes.

Policy Engagement and Strategic Partnerships

• Act as a senior scientific advisor to global and regional policy processes related to sustainable phosphorus use, food security, and climate-smart agriculture.
• Forge and maintain strategic collaborations with CGIAR centers, FAO, African and Asian agricultural research institutions, donor agencies, and multilateral organizations.
• Inform GPI’s advocacy efforts with evidence-based insights and thought leadership.

Knowledge Generation and Dissemination

• Publish in high-impact scientific journals and contribute to GPI white and position papers, technical reports, and strategic briefs.
• Represent GPI at international conferences, expert panels, and multilateral working groups.
• Serve as a public voice for GPI’s science, communicating key findings to diverse audiences including policy makers, funders, and practitioners.

Strategic Contributions to GPI

• Contribute to the shaping and refinement of GPI’s Strategic Plan (2025–2030), helping align scientific priorities with global development and SDG goals of poverty reduction, eliminating hunger.
• Monitor emerging trends in fertilizer innovation, nutrient stewardship, and soil health to guide institutional positioning.
• Advise on the design and evaluation of GPI programs and initiatives across multiple geographies.

Institutional Representation

• Represent the Executive Director in high-level internal and external forums, including strategic donor and stakeholder engagements.
• Engage actively in scientific and development networks to amplify GPI’s influence and partnerships.
