GPI is seeking an innovative and dynamic Research Scientist to lead groundbreaking research and projects exclusively focused on non-agricultural applications of phosphorus. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of fields such as materials science, energy storage, environmental sustainability, and water treatment—leveraging the unique properties of phosphorus outside of traditional agricultural uses.

The successful candidate will drive breakthrough research initiatives in non-agricultural phosphorus applications, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and contribute to advancing sustainable, transformative phosphorus technologies within an internationally engaged
environment.

The Research Scientist will be based at the GPI headquarters in Benguérir, Morocco and reports to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

• Research Leadership:

Develop, design, and execute innovative research projects dedicated to non-agricultural phosphorus applications. Projects will explore advanced phosphorus-based materials in water treatment, energy systems, environmental management, and advanced materials science.
• Collaboration:
Work closely with interdisciplinary teams—including chemists, materials scientists, environmental engineers, and industry partners—to drive collaborative research initiatives that push the boundaries of non-agricultural phosphorus applications.
• Knowledge Dissemination:
Publish findings in high-impact journals, present at international conferences, and contribute to the scientific community by advancing methodologies specifically tailored to non-agricultural uses of phosphorus.
• Innovation and Strategy:
Stay abreast of global trends in phosphorus research and propose strategic directions that align with GPI’s mission. Focus on exploring novel non-agricultural phosphorus applications that promote sustainable practices across multiple sectors.
• Support for GPI's activities
Represent GPI at scientific or other meetings, including speaking assignments.
Actively engage in national and international professional and scientific societies to represent the Institute.
Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including to developing countries.
Coordinate with GPI partners and stakeholders involved in key sustainable phosphorus organizations and government agencies.

Profile recherché

Qualifications:

• Educational Background:

PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related fields. Candidates with experience in or a strong interest in innovative phosphorus applications beyond traditional agriculture are encouraged to apply.
• Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant post-PhD research experience in phosphorus chemistry or advanced materials, with a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating expertise in non-agricultural phosphorus applications.
• Professional Attributes:
Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent English written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated passion for advancing non-agricultural phosphorus research.
Desired Skills and Experience:
• Experience with projects in water treatment, phosphorus material flow, energy storage, or environmental sustainability that utilize non-agricultural phosphorus applications.
• Familiarity with innovative techniques for phosphorus removal, sustainable monitoring, in non-agricultural contexts.
• A robust network within the academic or industrial research community, particularly in areas related to non-agricultural phosphorus technologies.
• A strong passion for exploring transformative applications of phosphorus beyond traditional agricultural uses.
