Job Summary

The Research Center on Algal Biotechnology (RCAB) at University Mohammed VY Polytechnic (UM6P), Laayoune City, is seeking a highly motivated senior engineer with expertise in marine biology, preferably algae biotechnology to manage the marine biology laboratory. The Lab-Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of our marine biology laboratory, including coordinating research activities, managing laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The successful candidate must have a strong background in marine biology, excellent organizational and leadership skills, and a passion for scientific research.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise laboratory staff, including engineers, technicians, and interns.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate research projects in marine biology, including experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration, troubleshooting, and inventory management.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements for laboratory operations.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external partners to support interdisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Train laboratory staff on experimental techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals, research reports, and scientific publications.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in marine biology research and technology.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the laboratory team.

About the Research Center on Algal Biotechnology (RCAB) – UM6P Laayoune :

The Research Center on Algal Biotechnology (RCAB) is a new component of the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P). It is located in Laayoune City and constitutes a structure of practical-based research with a vision of offering versatile infrastructure for cultivation and conversion of algae based on merging biotechnology, environmental science, and sustainability. Driven by innovation, sustainability, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the center aims to bridge research and practical applications for the development of a large spectrum of applications in agriculture, cosmetical, pharmaceuticals, feed and food industry, bioremediation, climate change mitigation, and renewable energy production.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in marine biology, biological sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a research laboratory setting, preferably in Algae Biotechnology.
  • Strong background in marine biology research methods, including fieldwork, data analysis, and experimental techniques.
  • Experience in laboratory management, including equipment maintenance, procurement, and budgeting, preferably in algae biotechnology (seaweeds and microalgae)
  • Expertise in bioreactor design, bioprocess optimization, and algae (microalgae and seaweeds) cultivation techniques at the laboratory and pilot-scale.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Proficiency in scientific software and data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in laboratory operations.
